Calm under pressure: Rebeca Andrade's third world title on vault
Comebacks rarely go to plan. Rebeca Andrade's did. On October 24, 2026, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Rotterdam, the 27-year-old from Guarulhos won the vault final with 14.466, joining China's Cheng Fei as the only three-time world champions on vault.
Her second vault was the López, the vault that had already earned her two Olympic medals and her world titles in Kitakyushu in 2021 and Antwerp in 2023. She was the only finalist to clear 14 points on both attempts, finishing ahead of Claire Pease and Skye Blakely, from the United States.
The gold also puts her one title ahead of Simone Biles, who won the event in 2018 and 2019. It is her 10th World Championship medal, and she is already Brazil's most decorated Olympian, with six podium finishes.
Rotterdam was her first World Championships since 2023: she stayed away from major international competitions in 2025 and returned gradually this season. She described the gold as a medal with a taste of comeback. She said she used to get nervous and shake, but that this time she had kept her calm and her smile, and she credited hard work on her physical and mental preparation.
Her path began at 4, in a social project run by the city of Guarulhos.
Every learner knows the feeling: nerves never vanish completely, but practice teaches you to perform through them. The first conversations in a new language feel shaky; the hundredth can feel almost serene.
