Three Brazilian founders sell a company again

Bruno Pierobon, Felipe Almeida and Gustavo Debs are Brazilian entrepreneurs. An entrepreneur is a person who starts a business.

Some years ago, they created a technology company called Zup. Later, the bank Itaú bought Zup.

Then they started again. They created NeoSpace, a startup from Uberlândia, in Minas Gerais. It makes artificial intelligence (AI) for very big amounts of data.

On October 26, 2026, Itaú agreed to buy all of NeoSpace for R$2.925 billion. The bank will pay part of the money over five years.

Bruno Pierobon learned to program by himself. At 13, he helped his father at an internet company. Now he will stay at NeoSpace as the CEO, the boss of the company.

Zup founders agree to sell AI startup NeoSpace to Itaú for R$2.925 billion

On October 26, 2026, Itaú Unibanco announced that it had signed an agreement to buy 100% of NeoSpace, a Brazilian AI startup, for R$2.925 billion. Part of the money will be paid at closing, and the rest over five years, subject to certain conditions. The deal still needs approval from CADE, Brazil's competition authority, and the Central Bank.

NeoSpace was founded in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais, by Bruno Pierobon, Felipe Almeida and Gustavo Debs. The three entrepreneurs had already created Zup, a technology company that grew to about 3,500 employees before Itaú bought it.

NeoSpace builds its own AI models to find patterns in huge amounts of company data. It has worked with Itaú for almost two years on credit, customer relationships and fraud prevention. In early 2025, the bank led a US$18 million funding round and took 15% of the startup.

Pierobon, who taught himself to program and helped his father at an internet provider at 13, will remain CEO, and the team will stay. He said they built NeoSpace convinced that Brazil can develop artificial intelligence.

Build, sell, start over: the founders behind Zup do it again with NeoSpace

Most entrepreneurs dream of building one successful company. Bruno Pierobon, Felipe Almeida and Gustavo Debs have agreed to sell their second one to the same buyer. On October 26, 2026, Itaú Unibanco disclosed an agreement to acquire 100% of NeoSpace, the artificial intelligence startup the trio founded in Uberlândia, for R$2.925 billion.

Part of the price is due at closing, with the rest deferred over five years. The deal still has to be cleared by CADE and the Central Bank. NeoSpace will remain autonomous, with Pierobon staying on as CEO and the team kept in place.

The founders have been here before. Their earlier venture, Zup, was set up in Minas Gerais, grew to about 3,500 employees and was later acquired by Itaú. Pierobon's own path started early: he taught himself to program and, at 13, was helping his father at an internet provider.

This time, as Almeida told Exame in March, they set out to own their technology rather than build a layer on top of other companies' models. NeoSpace's "Data Foundational Models" combine structured data, such as transactions, with unstructured data, such as documents. The startup has spent almost two years working with Itaú on credit, customer relationships and fraud prevention, and it caught the attention of Nvidia and Oracle.

Pierobon has said the company was built on the conviction that Brazil is capable of developing artificial intelligence.

Starting over after a success takes courage: you are no longer a beginner, yet you have to act like one. Anyone learning a new language knows the feeling. The good news is that what you learned the first time does not vanish; it makes the next start faster.
