He started driving go-karts, small racing cars, at 6. His grandmother, Niege Rossiter, was a pioneer of motor racing in Pernambuco in the 1960s. A pioneer is one of the first people in an area.
Rafael won the Formula 3 title in 2025. Now he leads the Formula 2 championship.
He will be the 34th Brazilian in Formula 1 and the first from the Northeast. He said: "I'm very happy to be joining TGR Haas F1 Team as a Formula 1 driver."

Rafael Câmara, the 21-year-old from Recife, will race in Formula 1 in 2027. On October 15, 2026, Haas announced he had signed a multi-year contract. He will replace Esteban Ocon, and Oliver Bearman is expected to stay as his teammate.
Born on May 5, 2005, Câmara started karting at 6. Motor racing runs in the family: his grandmother, Niege Rossiter, was a pioneer of the sport in Pernambuco in the 1960s. He joined the Ferrari Driver Academy in 2022.
He won the Formula Regional European Championship in 2024, with seven victories, and the Formula 3 title in 2025. In his first Formula 2 season, he leads the standings by seven points over Nikola Tsolov. In August, he tested Haas's 2025 car in Portimão.
